Overview
Based in Dover, Delaware since 1976, NCALL Research is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization specializing in affordable housing development, education and lending. Seeking to demonstrate to the community and future homeowners that solar is a great investment that will reduce operating costs, NCALL Research installed a 13.86 kW solar system in 2009 to later expand it by an addition 10.86 kW in 2012. In total, NCALL Research has a 24.67 kW roof mounted solar system generating electricity for their office that is electrically interconnected via net-metering.
Engineering
Utilizing the large southern roof area of their office, the 24.67 kW solar system demonstrates that homeowners, businesses and nonprofits alike can generate their own power, reduce operating costs, generate income and protect themselves from utility rate increases. In total, the project includes (66) Suntech and (46) Mage Powertec Plus solar modules connected to (4) SMA Sunny Boy inverters.
Benefits
NCALL Research has shown to homeowners, businesses, and fellow nonprofit organizations that solar systems do work as promised and do provide the return on investment necessary to flourish. This point is best demonstrated by NCALL Research’s choice to expand by their system by nearly double just three short years after their initial investment. Additionally, the owners can closely track their investment through a web-based monitoring system and lobby display.
