Overview
As an industry leader for over four decades in the hydraulic filtration industry, MP Filtri USA knows the value of limiting their overhead. Seeking to reduce the operating costs of the Quakertown, Pennsylvania based manufacturing and warehousing facility, MP Filtri USA commissioned the design and installation of a 52.0 kW solar photovoltaic system that will offset approximately 100% of their building’s current electricity needs.
Pennsylvania Renewables, Inc. of Quakertown, PA served as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the project and oversaw the construction management and installation of the system.
Manlove Engineering served as the electrical engineer of record for the project, providing engineering and consulting services that included solar photovoltaic design documents, electrical schematics, utility interconnection preparation and administration, and local permitting support.
Engineering
Following the principals of decentralized design, the solar system was engineered for maximum efficiency and energy yield. The solar system utilizes five Power One Aurora Trio 10kW three phase string inverters that provide a more granular maximum power point tracking architecture, less central points of failure, and native three phase power output. As each of the five inverters feature two independent MPPT solar array inputs, the large 52.0 kW solar array is effectively divided into ten 5.2 kW subarrays all operating independently. Each of the subarrays is then able to achieve its highest output level providing the greatest energy yield over the life of the system.
Specifically engineered for the building’s raised-seam metal roof, the large solar panel array is attached to the building utilizing the Unirac SolarMount system and the S5 non-penetrating attachment system. The innovative mounting system allows for the solar array to directly attach to the seams of the metal roof, without requiring any penetrations or internal structural connections. The project features (200) LG solar modules connected to five Power One Aurora Trio three phase string inverters.
Benefits
MP Filtri USA has made an investment in their energy independence. By generating all of their own electricity, they are now protected from future utility rate increases and have the potential to generate ongoing income. Additionally, the owners can closely track their investment through a web-based monitoring system from anywhere in the world.
