Overview
With the local utility company rates exceeding $0.19 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), Ace Printing & Mailing intimately understood the high cost of electricity and the strong incentives to generate their own. With near perfect azimuth and pitch, the roof of the Ace Printing & Mailing building in Berlin, MD provided the owners the ability to take control of their electricity needs and to generate 100% of their power by installing a 27.26 kW solar system.
Engineering
Accounting for the multi-tenant building design and multiple utility accounts present, the 27.26 kW roof array is actually comprised of three independent solar systems. Each system is electrically interconnected to separate utility meters serving one of the Ace Printing & Mailing adjoined office spaces. To best capitalize on benefits of the Maryland Net-Metering guidelines, each system was specially engineered and sized to offset 100% of the electric usage of each office space.
In total, the project includes (116) Mage Powertec Plus modules connected to (7) SMA Sunny Boy inverters.
Benefits
Ace Printing & Mailing now enjoys independence and protection. By generating all of their own electricity needs they have established their independence from the utility company and are now protected from future utility rate increases. Additionally, the owners can closely track their investment through a web-based monitoring system from anywhere in the world.
Note: The Ace Printing & Mailing solar project was designed and constructed by Flexera, Inc. under the direction of Mr. Manlove during his tenure with the company. Mr. Manlove is the Professional Engineer of record for the project.
